If you’re planning a refurbishment, the intention to design an elegant kitchen is generally at the top of your list of wants. And for good reason; it’s one of the most regularly used rooms in the home.
At ATN Constructions, we’ve helped build countless kitchens. We know what makes them stand out; what makes them work.
If you’re about to begin your first foray into updating a kitchen, don’t stress! We’ve put together a nifty list of tips to help you get on your way. And, naturally, we’re always available to help if you’d like some expert advice.
To start off, however, here are five tips to help you design an elegant kitchen for your home:
Utilise the space well:
While a big kitchen might be the dream for many of us, it’s not always an option. That doesn’t mean you’re doomed to live with a sub-par space.
Clever design can make all the difference. Perhaps that means installing a soap dispenser next to your faucet, or moving the placement of your sink to allow for more bench space? Maybe it means building storage options above the kitchen island? Work with your contractors to use the area to the best of your ability.
Conceal eyesores for uniformity:
Have you found the perfect kitchen cabinets? Are you worried the dishwasher and microwave will take away from the feel of the room? Cover them up! You can have appliances hidden away by your gorgeous new cabinets.
Similarly, you have the option to install power outlets that blend in with the finishes you select for a subtler appearance.
Get creative with tile designs:
If you’re wondering where you can introduce a little flair or personality into your kitchen, why not consider the tiles? Whether this means installing a coloured splashback, or perhaps a patterned floor, tiles offer some fun options that will allow you to inject some life into your kitchen.
Just be sure to choose timeless options that will age well with your home.
Think your lighting through:
Ask yourself a few questions before you decide on basic lighting options.
Do you have different areas that may require different levels of light? Are you after fittings that will act as focal points of the room? How do you want the space to feel?
Your kitchen’s lighting has a significant impact on the area’s overall atmosphere; be sure to spend some time on this.
Don’t forget function:
Above all else, don’t forget you’ll need to live in this room. So, while you want your kitchen to look incredible, don’t ever sacrifice function for aesthetics.
Ensure the layout is practical. Select a design that will encourage you to spend time in your kitchen. Is this a room where you’d kick back with a cup of tea comfortably? If not, you’ve got some work to do.
