As winter is well and truly here, we know there is some home maintenance in order. Due to the current lockdown, there is no better time to tick these off the list. Within this blog, we will highlight some helpful maintenance tips to tackle this winter. 

So, let’s jump right in

Check Your Smoke Detectors 

This is especially important during the winter months, as we start to use our heaters and fireplaces more regularly. Make sure to replace the batteries, if required. 

Vacuum Your Fridge Coils 

1. Turn off your fridge from the plug 
2. Pull away from the wall 
3. Vacuum any dirt or dust from the coils at the back using the smallest vacuum attachment available 

Clean Your Range Hood & Extractor Fan

1. Remove hood 
2. Apply hot soapy water or a degreaser with an old rag 
3. Leave to sit 
4. Rise 

Scrub Air-Conditioning Filters 

Clogged and dirty filters can reduce airflow by up to 50% 

1. Remove filter carefully 
2. Rinse in sink
3. Wash with dishwashing liquid and a soft brush 
4. Dry naturally 
5. Vacuum any remaining muck 

Clear Your Gutters

Blocked gutters can mean that rainfall is not flowing as it should. This can lead to damage to your roof or foundations. 

1. Check for debris, vegetation, cracks or corrosion
2. Clear any debris with a gutter brush, sweeping into a bag 
3. Mix a 50/50 solution of bleach and water to disinfect 
4. Scrub and rinse

Clean Your Faucets & Showerheads 

Over time mineral deposits can build up on your faucets and showerheads. To combats this you can use: 

• Water and dish soap 
• One cup water, one cup vinegar (for more stubborn build-up)
