3 Myths About Building A New Home

When deciding to build a new home, many may result in a pros and cons list to help with their decision. Within this blog, we aim to debunk the common myths stopping you from building your dream home.

MYTH #1 NEW HOMES ARE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN PRE-OWNED HOMES

To start, the cost is usually one of the most influential factors when deciding to build new. That being said, buying a pre-owned home does not necessarily mean you are saving money. Especially when it comes to older homes, as there is a high chance of unexpected costs. This situation commonly occurs when you are unsure of the full conditions of the home. Termites? damp? Maybe some areas you were hoping to keep are not in the condition you thought. A pre-owned home often means outdated appliances that need replacing. Whereas, building new means knowing the costs you agreed to, tailored to your budget.

MYTH #2: IT’S MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY TO BUY A PRE-OWNED HOME

Following this, we have the idea that building a new home is not an environmentally friendly option. However, this is far from the truth for several reasons:

  • Older homes are usually not well insulated, which can reduce thermal comfort. As a result, more energy is used to heat and cool the home
  • The appliances in a pre-owned home may be outdated and do not have an EnergyStar rating, meaning they are using unnecessary energy and water.
  • When building your own custom home, you can choose more sustainable materials, such as recycled bricks and timber.

MYTH # 3: I WILL GET A COOKIE-CUTTER HOME

If you have a unique style and want to avoid your home looking like everyone else’s, this does not have to be the case!

If you choose a custom home builder, your home will stand out in your street. This option also provides you with the opportunity to create a considerate floor plan that is best suited to your individual needs and lifestyle.
